Happy Father's DayJames looked nervously at the top of the tree in front of him, not sure where else to look. His occasional sidelong glances at the girl next to him let him know that she hadn't looked up from the hands tightly gripping the package in her lap for the last fifteen minutes. He now focused instead on a nest in the top of the tree. He watched as a bird flew to the nest, feeding the young hatchlings that waited with eager beaks wide open. After a minute or two, James shifted uncomfortably on the park bench and again shifted his gaze to the young lady. I'm sitting here, trying to get some work done, and all I can think of is my bf and how I want to throw my books aside and just be with him right now, how I wish homework and classes didn't get in the way of curling up with him whenever I wanted. And a thought scampers across my mind, a little mouse squeaking that if I dropped out of school, then those things wouldn't be in the way and I could just be with him. But the mouse is quickly caught by a sensible cat pointing out that he wouldn't respect me then, and I can't lose his respect. I don't think he would stay with me if I dropped out.


Sigh. For a moment, it was so tempting.
